Solution Showcase: Adding Security and Communication to a School for the Deaf

THE SCENARIO:

Administrators dedicated to the deaf and hard-of-hearing community were looking to secure their school, which had three entrances. The main entrance was used by students, parents, and visitors. The second entrance was used by staff and the third entrance was used for deliveries.

School admin needed a method for anyone at one of these three entrances to communicate to faculty in the reception area, principal’s office, or teachers’ lounge. Their unique challenge was that they needed the ability to communicate effectively with their deaf students, visitors, and parents who arrived after class began and the entrances were locked.

THE SOLUTION:

The school admin selected an IP video intercom with two‑way video capability. Installers used existing network cable to easily connect the three entrances to the three interior staff locations.

Entrance stations featured a large touchscreen and camera so deaf visitors could sign with staff. Both entrance and master stations had t‑coil technology, which offered clarity to those wearing compatible hearing aids. Interior master stations also included a 7” touchscreen with privacy shutter to control the two‑way video.
