Solution Showcase: Adding Security and Communication to a Correctional Facility

THE SCENARIO:

Officers at a correctional facility needed to replace their aging intercom system. Their current system had a single master station in the security center with sub stations throughout the building. One of the challenges to replace their system was a limited budget.

Dual‑call audio sub stations were placed at every door location, as well as every 30 feet along hallways. This way officers were never more than 15 feet from an emergency call button for help.

THE SOLUTION:

By switching to an IP intercom, the facility replaced hallway stations with modern technology while keeping the original form and function. A compatible 2-wire adaptor cut costs by allowing much of the existing wire to be reused.

The system was not limited to a single master station, so two more were added at guard desks. In the main security center, a software master station with an interactive map was used. The map quickly displayed a call’s origin on a main monitor, which helped to significantly decrease officer response time to address emergencies.
