The state will give $7.2 million in grants to public schools to purchase new security equipment, systems and software, including $1.5 million to districts in Central Massachusetts

 

In total, 28 school systems in the region will receive grants, ranging from just under $30,000 to $80,000. Worcester, Fitchburg, Montachusett Regional Vocational Technical School and Blackstone Valley Regional Vocational Technical High School each will receive $80,000 for doors and locks, cameras and other security devices.

 

There are 140 school districts, charter schools and vocational schools around the state that received a grant in the funding round announced Tuesday. In addition to building enhancements, that money is intended for expenses like radio systems and security card readers.
