JP Series

In addition to the JP-4MED master station, the JP Series supports a maximum of four door stations and seven JP-4HD sub masters. Note that there is no equipment, modification, or work-around that will allow the device to support more than these quantities. To view a list of all JP series stations, click here.

The JP Series is unique among other Aiphone products in that it does have cross-compatibility with other Aiphone series stations. What specific series and products can be found on the chart below.

The recommended wire for the JP Series between the door station to master station is Aiphone’s solid, non-shielded two-conductor wire, part number 871802. From the master station to the sub master station, the JP series uses Cat-5e/6 cable. Note that Aiphone does not manufacture Cat-5e/6 cable. Click here to view the JP Series installation manual.

For the first two door stations, the JP Series offers two built-in normally open, dry contacts (L/L terminals) for door release, with a contact rating of 24v AC/DC, 500mA. For strikes with higher power requirements, the RY-24L is required. The RY-24L is always recommended when using door release, regardless of power requirements, to protect the JP master station from power surges or other power-related events. For installations with three or four door stations needing door release functionality, the RY-3DL multi-door release adaptor is required. For more information about this relay, including contact ratings and wiring instructions, click here.

The JP Series offers two built-in normally open, dry contacts (L/L terminals) for door release or may utilize the RY-24L/RY-3DL external door release relay. If the lock is wired in series with its power supply and the JP-4MED, remove the wires connected to the L/L terminals and touch them together. This simulates the contact closure provided by the station.

• If the lock opens: The contacts of the master station may be compromised. Contact Aiphone Technical Support if you suspect the unit needs to be seen for repair.
• If the lock does not open: The lock, its power supply, or the wire may be the issue and additional troubleshooting may be needed outside of the Aiphone equipment.

The same test may be done if the RY-24L or RY-3DL relay is used by shorting the BROWN and ORANGE wires on the RY-24L, or the NO / COM connections on the RY-3DL. The RY-ES external signal relay may be used to trigger a 3rd party chime or strobe when the JP-4MED master station or JP-4HD sub master is receiving a call. The relay will pulse with the chime of the master station providing a normally open, dry contact. This can be caused by environmental factors, exceeding recommended wiring distance or wire type, ambient electrical interference, or physical damage to the unit.

• Bring the door station to the JP-4MED and connect the A1/A2 terminals on the door station to the A1/A2 connections on the master station. This test will help verify the integrity of the wire, the wiring distance, and the hardware.
• Ensure wiring distance between door and master station is within 330′(100m) and is without outside electrical interference caused by high voltage wires ran in parallel with the intercom wires, or environmental interference such as exposed wire or standing water in a conduit.
• Meter the power supply of the JP-4MED, checking for ~24v DC. Also verify that this power supply is not being shared with 3rd party devices, such as a door lock. For more information about the power requirements of the JP Series, click here to view its installation manual.

When the station is powered on for the first time, in the lower right-hand corner of the screen, you will see an option to set the ID of the unit. Set it to the desired ID number (2-8). If it is still stuck at the start-up after setting the ID number, there are several things to check.

• It is most commonly due to a power issue or a loose connection. Make sure there is an appropriate amount of power supplies for the system. A 24v DC power supply attached to the JP-4MED with support up to two JP-4HD stations 98′ from the master, or one JP-4HD up to 165′ from the master. Beyond those distances, or if there are more than two sub masters, refer to the following wiring diagram for power supply requirements.
• Ensure the Cat-5e/6 cable connected to the back of the device is pushed in completely and locked in place. Each pin of the cable is responsible for different aspects of the station’s functionality, so a loosely fitted cable may allow for some functionality but not all.

If the issue persists, bring the station directly to the JP-4MED (or if used, the JP-8Z) and connect it using a patch cable. Attempt to ID the station in this controlled environment and re-deploy it back into place.

For that information, you need to call the manufacturer of the door strike or magnetic lock. Aiphone cannot answer that question and cannot provide you with an acceptable alternative.
