The state of California has recently taken big steps to help houses of worship and other non-profit organizations increase security through a competitive grant program. Unfortunately, many of these organizations are facing an increase in hate crimes, many of them violent and deadly.
“In a world where hate crimes and antisemitism are on the rise, we need more than thoughts and prayers to keep us safe,” said Assemblyman Jesse Gabriel, author of the legislation. “This new law will provide critical resources to protect vulnerable communities and send a powerful message that California stands firmly with those targeted by hate.”
The California Nonprofit Security Grant Program provides much-needed funding for equipment such as CCTV, access control, and video intercoms. This program can help churches, synagogues, mosques, and non-profits – such as those offering LGBTQ services – better protect their worshipers and patrons. The program offers grants of up to $200,000 per award.
These organizations are now in the process of planning for their security enhancements as awards for this program were recently announced. We urge our dealer/integrator partners to contact customers that can benefit from this California program.
If your state doesn’t offer a program similar to the California Nonprofit Security Grant Program, we highly encourage you to reach out to your local representatives and ask them to create one.
